Our Story

How we got here.

Bumble and a sick dog.

In 2021, April lived in Cedar Hills with Coconut the kitty and Harvy the doodle. Brandon and Sadie the husky had just moved to Utah, and he was about to accept a job offer and sign a new apartment lease. They both took their dating pursuits to the Bumble app. (April had set her app to 5 miles, for quality over quantity. Luckily, Brandon hadn't moved yet.) April's first message was, "Someone nearby, who has lived out of state, with a dog my dog can play with?" Brandon's response: "Absolutely!" They texted for about a month, and Brandon almost lost hope in meeting in person, as April was very preoccupied with Harvy’s kennel cough for the entire month. Finally, Harvy recovered, and April + Brandon met.

Tacos and “me too” (not that #metoo)

They met for dinner at Taqueria 21, and spent the conversation exchanging, “Me too!” Mission in California. Spanish. Anthropology. City life to Utah suburbs. A bunch more, but the love for music? Somehow, it didn’t come up.

But wait- There’s more!

For date 2, April suggested Color Me Mine because, once upon a time, some guy had told April he liked that date because it has a built-in sequel date to deliver the finished product. Brandon listened to April talk about her upcoming dental work for four hours (!?) while she painted. They had covid masks, and Brandon said it made her eyes pop. 😉 Date 3: April took the mugs to SLC hoping to coordinate a drop-off. With time to spare, she went to Target to pick up make-up to touch up her look– caring about her impression on Brandon. At the apartment, April met Sadie for the first time. Pretty, frost blue eyes. April left, hoping that wasn’t the end.

Actual Date 3

Knowing Brandon’s taste for cheese and international experiences, April suggested The Old Dutch Store and Deli, and a stroll around Sugar House Park with their dogs. Brandon says when he arrived and saw April, he had a good feeling it was going to be a fun day. Brandon remembers Harvy was timid when he met him. At the park, April asked Brandon what he wants out of life– fully expecting a shallow, material, or ambitious answer, and Brandon surprised her with the answer: “Love.” April thought, ‘I can do that.’

And so on.

They shared many more fun dates. A long walk around Dimple Dell, and the State Capitol; Ensign Peak; their combined birthday celebration at Classic Skating 80s night, where Brandon ate it (fell on his bum) super hard; the Draper Bridge hike with the dogs; dress-up-fancy dinner at Lake Effect; and eventually realizing their shared enthusiasm for music. Brandon moved in with April in 2022. Maverik joined the pack in 2023. They’ve shared lots of holidays, concerts, trips, family events, and facing life hardships together. (e.g. Coco kitty passed; April’s health challenges; Brandon’s multiple bike injuries; April’s multiple surgeries; a few fender-benders; job changes.) They got engaged in 2024. And here you are– sharing the moment as they get married in 2025.
